Talking about Oscar
The formal name of Academy Award is Academy Awards of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. It has been established in 1927 and held in Los Angeles, American every year. The great event has enjoyed great fame for over half a century. Not only does it reflect the development process of American films arts, but also it produces great influence to motion arts in many countries around the world.
In May 1927, a crowd of celebrities from American motion circle had established a “Non-profitable Organization” in Hollywood, named as Academy of motion picture Arts and Sciences, shortly as A.M.P.A.S, with the mission for motion arts promotion and technology process. The Academy decided to reward excellent motion workers with Academy Award, after 1931, Academy Award has gradually been replaced by the common name Oscar, which has been generally known.
There is a credible saying for the origins of Oscar. In 1931, when the female administrator Margaret Herrick, at the library in Academy of motion picture Arts and Sciences, had a careful scrutiny at the Academy Awards, then claimed that, “Woo! It looks like my uncle Oscar very much!” The sentence has been unintentionally heard by journalists beside, thus they have written like, “The workers in the Academy of motion picture Arts and Sciences stated soulfully the Academy Award as Oscar.” Therefore the name of Oscar has been spread like wildfire.
The body of Academy Award cup is a gold-plated telamon with 13.5 inches and 3.9kg weights, designed by American famous sculptor George Stanley. According to the regulations of Oscar, the winner of one award can get one Academy Award cup, if there are two winners regarding the same award, each of them will be awarded one Academy Award cup. The appearance of Academy Award is an unclothed man, with his two hands cross before his breast and a long sword in the hand. He stood on a reel of five rings, each ring representing one important working department in Academy of motion picture Arts and Sciences: production, direction, playwright, performers, technical staff.
The original trophy was made by George Stanley with 500 dollars from Meyer, designing the trophy 13.5 inches and 6.75 pounds in weight, with alloy inside and a layer of gold on the surface, sparkling with silver flakes, so it has been called as Awards. Awards pattern is designed by Cedric Gibbons, who was the artists in MGM and designated by his superior Meyer for the job, what’s more, Gibbons was one of the most outstanding art designers in the history of Art and Design. Not only did he design the Academy Award, but also he received it, subsequently from the 2nd to the 29th session of Academy Award, he had been grade dominated for 39 times and obtained the award for 11 times during the whole 28 years. Gibbons has participated in design work for almost all of the excellent motion works republished by MGM.
In the whole motion circle, annual Academy Award is a great event, all the actors and actresses will come, dressed up beautifully with (http://www.dinodirect.com/celebrity-dresses/ ) Some of them came for awards, some for celebration, just with the intention to make as many friends as possible. Actually there are many opportunities for you to meet some famous directors, if they have any good scripts and just at the moment of looking for suitable actors, maybe you will get a wonderful opportunity without exception. Thus everyone, no matter actors or actresses, shall try his best to dress himself as beautiful as possible, in other words, today Oscar is not just a event, more importantly, it has become a visual feast because you can see plenty of beauties and handsome boys here.

2010 Oscar Nominees Announced – 2010 Oscar Nominees
This morning Anne Hathaway and Academy President Tom Sherak were on hand to announce the nominees for the 2010 Academy Awards. Avatar and The Hurt Locker each had the most nominations, nine apiece, including Best Picture. Also included in the Best Picture top 10 were surprises like District 9 and The Blind Side, as well as A Serious Man, Inglourious Basterds, An Education, Precious, Up and Up in the Air.
Inglourious Basterds was just behind in the nominations tally with eight, while Precious and Up in the Air snagged six each and Up, surprisingly enough for an animated film, scored four.
Surprises included the snubbing of Invictus in Best Picture, despite the fact that Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon both scored acting nominations, and the inclusion of Maggie Gyllenhaal in Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Crazy Heart. I was thrilled to see In the Loop score a Best Original Screenplay nomination, though a little sad to see it apparently at the expense of (500) Days of Summer. The Best Original Score category got a little wacky too, with longshots like the scores for Fantastic Mr. Fox and Sherlock Holmes sneaking in– both excellent choices, of course.

The Best Film Academy Oscar Awards

The Best Film Academy Oscar Awards
Each January, the entertainment community and film fans around the world turn their attention to the Academy Awards. Interest and anticipation builds to a fevered pitch leading up to the Oscar telecast in February, when hundreds of millions of movie lovers tune in to watch the glamorous ceremony and learn who will receive the highest honors in filmmaking.
The Oscars reward the previous year’s greatest cinema achievements as determined by some of the world’s most accomplished motion picture artists and professionals. The Academy’s roughly 6,000 members vote for the Oscars using secret ballots, which are tabulated by the international auditing firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers. The auditors maintain absolute secrecy until the moment the show’s presenters open the envelopes and reveal the winners on live television.
Awards are presented for outstanding individual or collective efforts in up to 25 categories. Members select winners from as many as five nominees in each category, which are determined by members of the relevant Academy branch. (For instance, only film editors may nominate for the Achievement in Film Editing award.) The only exceptions are the Best Picture category, for which nominees are selected by the entire membership, and the Best Foreign Language films, which are nominated by a committee of members drawn from all branches.
In addition to the regular annual awards conferred by the membership, the Board of Governors is empowered to bestow Scientific and Technical Awards, Honorary Awards, Special Achievement Awards and other honors. Broadcast rights to the annual Oscar telecast provide the majority of the revenue for the organization’s rich and varied year-round activities.
Far from the eagerly anticipated and globally televised event it is today, the first Academy Awards ceremony took place out of the public eye during an Academy banquet at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Two hundred seventy people attended the May 16, 1929 dinner in the hotel’s Blossom Room; guest tickets cost . It was a long affair filled with speeches, but Academy President Douglas Fairbanks made quick work of handing out the statuettes.
There was little suspense when the awards were presented that night: the recipients had already been announced three months earlier. That all changed the following year, however, when the Academy decided to keep the results secret until the ceremony but gave a list in advance to newspapers for publication at 11 p.m. on the night of the Awards. This policy continued until 1940 when, much to the Academy’s consternation, the Los Angeles Times broke the embargo and published the names of the winners in its evening edition – which was readily available to guests arriving for the ceremony. That prompted the Academy in 1941 to adopt the sealed-envelope system still in use today.
Although it measures just 13½ inches high, the Oscar statuette stands tall as the motion picture industry’s greatest honor. Officially named the Academy Award of Merit, the Oscar is given in recognition of the highest level of achievement in moviemaking.
Should we not know who the proud Indians who won us the Oscars were? Bhanu Athaiya won Best Costume Design (with John Mollo) for Gandhi (1982). Satyajit Ray received an honorary Academy Award in 1991. Russell Pookutty won Best Sound Mixing (with Ian Tapp and Richard Pryke) for Slumdog Millionaire (2008). AR Rahman won Best Score and Best Original Song (music) for Slumdog Millionaire (2008). Gulzar won Best Song (lyrics) for Slumdog Millionaire (2008). [He was not present at the ceremony to collect his Oscar.]

The schedule for Oscar Awards for 2011 will be on the 27th of February and will be held at Kodak Theater in Hollywood. Everybody is now excited to know who will reign as the movie stars for this year’s prestigious awarding ceremony.
Since we don’t have any idea yet about the nominees on the 83rd Academy Awards, I will share my predictions of who will win on the upcoming event.
Let’s start it off with the Best Actor Award.
I will place my bet on Leonardo DiCaprio for this title. This titanic star has been nominated for how many times in Oscar. This time, I have a feeling that he will be nominated for the movie The Chancellor Manuscript. This movie is based on 1977 novel and it is all about the story of J. Edgar Hoover and his secret files which are used to blackmail high profile personalities.
For the Best Actress Award, I will give it up for Anne Hathaway. This young actress has been doing so well with her previous movies Princess Diaries, Brokeback Mountain and Havoc. She was even stand out in the movie The Devil Wears Prada even in the presence of Meryl Streep. This young actress will about to shine more as she will take home the Best Actress award for this year.
And of course, the most coveted Best Picture Award. The most striking film so far that has come up which I think is worthy to be called Best Picture is the movie “Inception”. This thought provoking movie has some kind of a magic that would hypnotize moviegoers and even after watching the movie, it will still linger on your thoughts. That characteristic of the Inception would I think qualify to be the Best Picture for this year.
These are just my predictions, a lot of things will still happen as we step forward to the 83rd Academy Awards this coming February.
